Ch. Mouton Rothschild has since 1945 commissioned an artist for each vintage's label. Roufino Tamayo agreed in 1990 to create an original work for the label but died in 1991. His family, wishing to see his intention fulfilled, provided El Brindis, a man proposing a toast, for the 1998 vintage.

The chateau made a stir in 1973 when Baron Philippe de Rothschild succeeded in getting it reclassified as a first growth, the first change to the classification since 1855.

Margaux neighbour, Chateau Palmer, like Chateau Pontet-Canet, is biodynamic. 200 sheep and 15 cows live there.

and Alpha Estate is phylloxera resistant:

The elegant bottles are unusually heavy and the producer calls the estate the "New Old World", which is probably true. It has phylloxera tolerant 100 year old Assyrtiko vines. Phylloxera does not flourish in sandy soil at high altitude.
